Are you a space-lover and a movie connoisseur? Well, this is the spot for you! Here are some fun space movies to watch…
2001: A Space Odyssey
This is an absolute must. 2001: A Space Odyssey is a classic film that I recommend to all movie-lovers, not just aspiring astronauts. It has a 92% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and you know they are tough critics!
The movie takes you through all kinds of different themes: existentialism, human evolution, the possibility of aliens, and even AI. The film is highly praised for depicting space flight in a very accurate manner.
If you only watch one film on this list, this would be the one to choose.
Interstellar
Interstellar is another incredible film starring one of my favorite actors, the awesome Matthew McConaughey! This film is a time-warping, reality shifting marvel that takes you both into space and back in time. Have your popcorn ready for this one, but don’t forget your thinking caps 🧠 because it is complex storyline that requires your undivided attention. The ending is mind-boggling and worth the journey.
The film takes place in a dystopian future. A group of astronauts have to travel back in time through a wormhole to figure out a solution to Earth’s woes. My explanation will not do it justice, go watch this movie!
The Martian
The Martian featuring Matt Damon is a space movie with a storyline that might not seem too out of reach for some of us space buffs, surviving on Mars. This film is the story of an astronaut who is left behind on Mars, after his crewmates leave him behind. He finds himself in a situation where he has to figure out how to survive on an uninhabited planet.
The visuals in the film are amazing and it was very well received by critics and fans alike. This film as well as the others on the list is definitely a must-watch.
Hidden Figures
Hidden Figures is one of those stories that might have been lost in time for the common person, had it not been brought to light by a Hollywood film. This critically acclaimed film takes place during the early years of the US space program. NASA is attempting to launch an astronaut into orbit to maintain the upper-hand in the space race against the Soviet Union. This movie tells the story of three courageous women who served as the brains behind the mission.
This film outperformed box office projections by a wide mark and with good reason. It keeps you hooked from beginning to end.
Wall-E
Did you know Wall-E was an abbreviation for something? I will not spoil what it stands for, you will just have to watch the movie to find out. Unlike the other films I have on this list, Wall-E is a family-friendly, Pixar animated film that hits on some pretty heavy topics. Some critics have called Wall-E a “cautionary tale” for the mistreatment of our lovely Mother Earth. Whether you are 2 or a 102, Wall-E is a wonderful film; both the plot and the animation itself are works of art. If you have an hour and a half to spare, I would definitely give this one a watch.
P.S. Be prepared to be annoying everyone with your Wall-EEEEEEEs for at least a week.
